say what?

MANIFESTO & BIO, or until something
better comes along

GOMI is Japanese for trash.

There is a Japanese visual art in
which the artist is forced to be
spontaneous. He must paint on
a thin stretched parchment with a
special brush and black water
paint in such a way that an
unnatural or interrupted stroke
will destroy the line or break
through the parchment. Erasures
or changes are impossible. These
artists must practice a par-
ticular discipline, that of allowing
the idea to express itself in
communication with their
hands in such a direct way
that deliberation cannot
interfere.

The resulting pictures lack the
complex composition and textures
of ordinary painting, but it is said
that those who see will find
something captured that
escapes explanation.

JOHNGOMI WHO?

John Gomi AKA John Lohse 1972 -DJ,Musician, Artist, Designer,former-Boutique Owner & currently celebrating the 18th aniversary of his love affair with electronic music & a lifetime love affair with art. Most notably contemporary urban art, street art, outsider art & urban folk art. Traveling the world, John Gomi is still constantly “searching for the perfect beat.” Focusing as of late on hard electonic & indie-dance as well as the more pulsing, deep, & minimal excursions, such as vocal NY, throbing Berlin, with that,”French-Touch” as well as strongly influenced by the more experimental sound collage outings of Paul Miller AKA DJ SPOOKY, Prefuse 73, & Francois K .Maintaining a residence in Austin, TX (as well as spending much time as possible in New Orleans) since the early 1990’s John Gomi has been a part of just about every incarnation of the Austin electronic dance scene, most recently with his series of outlaw parties on Austin's downtown pedestrian bridge, & office parks which at it's peak amassed 300+ revelers until 6AM with no more promotion than a strong network of word of mouth & a fairly large text message based phonebook on a couple of cellphones.

John Gomi currently divides his time between DJing events, fashion shows for organizations like Ducati , AMODA, etc.,

GOMIHEARTELECTRIC
www.gomiheartelectric.com,

As an fine artist JohnGomi's preferred mediums are scratchbord, painting, situationist art, as well as some photography with minimal digital re-touch All avenues maintaining a strong since of urban folk, street art, & electronic dance culture. Although it might not always be obvious in it's various forms John Gomi's work is deeply rooted culturally in both Hip Hop, & Punk Rock respectively. Not unlike the New York he experienced in his youth 80's. John Gomi's work is a fusion of cultures & mythologies. Culture Jamming to the extreme. Not High-Tech, but Hybrid-Tech, a non-linear time line of figurative, techological, & situation collage both visual & musical.

John Gomi, & Gomi, the former Austin boutique(closed Oct 2007) have been feature in several articles & in the media. Most recently in the Austin Chronicle article,”Planet Funk Meets Planet Punk-Nu beats on famous bleats” BY MARC SAVLOV, & on radio station 101x, on Hypersonic with Jason Jenkins. Others publications GOMI has been featured in are as follows.

Metropop, Juxtapoz, Austin American Statesman, Austin Chronicle, Texas Monthly, Envy, 512, BleachOnline, Austinist, Globalbeatz,Daily Texan, Austin Business Journal, etc.
